This week, the long-awaited return of 12 Bones in South Asheville is over. Located at 2350 Hendersonville Road, Arden it will no doubt have a legion of fans at the door waiting to get their fill of slow cooked BBQ and fall of the bone ribs smothered in blueberry chipotle sauce. No matter what type of barbecue you prefer, this place doesn’t stick with just one - they pay homage to the various styles found all over the country. Make sure to check their website for hours, since they are mostly open for lunch only.
Running through May 13, 2018 the Biltmore presents an exhibit of fashion from the movie "Titanic".
The Carl Sandburg Home in Flat Rock (15 miles /20 minutes from Winghaven) is a great destination for all ages. Plan to spend half a day there touring the fully furnished historic home, learning about the poet, hiking the grounds and visiting the goat farm.
See the National Park Service website for visitor information: https://www.nps.gov/carl/index.htm
Make sure to bring a picnic in good weather. Just make sure to eat it away from the goats !!!

If you are looking for a casual place to eat that serves high quality food sourced from local farms may we suggest Farm Burger in South Asheville: http://www.farmburger.net/south-Ashville
While Farm Burger is a chain restaurant, they do source their ingredients from local farms and have been voted "Best Hamburger" by the readers of Mountain Xpress. We agree that the quality of the food is great! Farm Burger South Asheville is about 15 minutes from the Chalet. There is also a Farm Burger in Downtown Asheville.
One of our favorite places to go hiking is Dupont State Forest about 40 minutes from the Chalet: http://www.dupontforest.com. The park is known for its spectacular waterfalls.
Most visitors hike the three mile roundtrip to see Hooker, Triple and High Falls. If you are up for a longer hike or maybe you have bikes with you, bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the beautiful lakes at the park. Bridal Veil Falls is also spectacular, you can actually walk behind the waterfall!
